15% off Single Seater Motor racing experiences with Red Letter Days

August 16th, 2009 BrawnGPNews No comments

I wanted to let everyone know about this great offer at Red Letter Days.

Experience description:

Driving an F1-style single-seater racing car is unlike anything else. You’re strapped into the open cockpit with your legs stretched out into the nose of the car, the steering wheel in front of you and the gearstick between your legs. You’re only a couple of inches off the ground and you’ll know it; you can feel every bump and vibration and you’ll have to fight not to oversteer, as your super-responsive car reacts to every tiny adjustment you make. This is driving at its limits, as done by the pros; just you and the car. Your experience starts with a safety briefing about high-speed driving. At selected locations you’ll warm up with a session in a race-prepared sports saloon or sports car with your instructor, to learn the racing line and hone your circuit driving technique. Then you’ll strap in to the single-seater, driving solo, putting all the theory into practice. No-one can hear you saying ‘vroom’, so just take control and enjoy the experience.

Offer ends on 31st August 2009

The Stig is revealed as Michael Schumacher

June 22nd, 2009 BrawnGPNews No comments

To open the 13th series of Top Gear the team did a piece on the Ferarri FXX – a track based car which was based on the Enzo.  It seems not just anyone can drive this car, just the Stig!  After the fast lap of the Top Gear Track which smashed the track lap record the Stig came into the studio to put an end to all the speculation of his identity.

Watch the Michael Schumacher revealed as the Stig in this YouTube clip

The Stig slowly revealed his helmet to reveal no other than Michael Schumacher to rapturous applause.  Now obviously Michael Schumacher is not the Stig but it was great to see him in a more relaxed humorous piece as Jeremy Clarkson asks Stig based questions such as “are you illegal in 17 US states”.  He goes on to ask about the current Formula One series and whether it is the car or driver.  At the end of the episode Michael Schumacher was shown doing a “star in a reasonably priced car” however he stalled, took the corners wrong and eventually got lost!  A shame their couldn’t be a true comparison with Damon Hill, Jenson Button and other drivers to take the challenge.

The original black clad stig was Perry McCarthey former Andrea Moda F1 driver.  This stig was “killed” off after driving a car off a warship.  The true identity of the current stig is unknown but many believe it is a range of drivers and the use of the facade “Stig” allows the Top Gear team just to use whoever is available.
